Here are a couple more paintings

Here's the Sunday evening painting. This one came together in 2 hours...some just fall right into place...I love it when that happens.

Here is another portrait. This time I painted the background first and before I put in the lights, I washed over it with the background color as opposed to mixing it in with the fleshtones.

Thanks so much to all that sent compliments on the comment article. It really made my week with all of the nice things that people said about the work!

Here it is, the 1000 words article:

Sunday, Sept 20th

Today I worked on a painting focusing on things I learned last week from drawing. Tried to keep my shadows pretty solid, and focused on measuring the right porportions and blocking in. I painted for 8 hours and still didn't finish but am still pleased with how far I did get on this one.

Bargue drawings

Here are some Bargue drawings I worked on this week. Copying Bargue has taught me how subtlty in line can have a huge impact on a final drawing.

breakfromacommision

Well, there aren't so many posts lately because Ive been working on a commision that Ive painted 6 times and havent been satisfied with. This week I decided to take a break and paint another kid. I tried to focus on the mouth this time remembering what my teacher had told me about it being a ball. I call this one "Little Leslie" because it reminds me of one of my dearest friends in Chicago who always wears braids.
